Health Benefits of Ginger

  1. Ginger is high in gingerol, a substance with powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Gingerol interferes with inflammation and can reduce swelling.
  2. Just 1–1.5 grams of ginger can help prevent various types of nausea, including chemotherapy-related nausea, nausea after surgery, and morning sickness.
  3. Ginger has been shown to lower blood sugar levels and improve various heart disease risk factors in people with type 2 diabetes.
  4. Ginger appears to speed up emptying of the stomach, which can be beneficial for people with indigestion and related stomach discomfort.
  5. Ginger appears to be very effective against menstrual pain when taken at the beginning of the menstrual period.
  6. There’s some evidence, in both humans and animals, that ginger can lead to significant reductions in LDL (bad) cholesterol, total cholesterol, and blood triglyceride levels.
  7. Ginger has certain chemical compounds that help your body ward off germs. They’re especially good at halting growth of bacteria like E.coli and shigella, and they may also keep viruses like RSV at bay.
  8. Ginger modulates oxidative stress and prostaglandins as harmful factors in COVID-19.
  9. Curbs cancer growth. Studies show that bioactive molecules in ginger may slow down the growth of some cancers like colorectal, gastric, ovarian, liver, skin, breast, and prostate cancer. More research is required to definitively conclude this.
  10. Ginger is capable to modulate improper effector T cell responses in COVID-19.
